Before travelling, you/your pet will need various documents and checks. Below is a guide to help you make

your planning easier.

Useful documents for the trip

Travel Documentation for Italy and EU

The requested travel documentation includes:

  • Completed and signed transport delegation form
  • Italian Codice Fiscale, phone number and copy of the ID (front and back) for both sender and recipient
  • Canine Registry office (ASL) pet registration number (transfer of ownership does not constitute registration)
  • Original copy of the pet health booklet issued/signed by the pet’s Vet with includes all given medications and vaccinations

 


Pet Transport rules & regulations

Pets must be:

  • At least 60 days old (90 days if travelling outside Italy)
  • Microchipped and have received all required deworming and parasites treatments in accordance to health and veterinary regulations
  • Have completed the required cycle of vaccination 7 days prior departure (pets aged under 6 months are required to have had at least 2 vaccines)
  • Dogs and Cats of all ages must travel with an empty stomach to avoid them being sick during their journey - please ensure that their last meal is given 10–12 hours before departure.
  • If your pet has undergo any recent surgery (i.e. neutering, injury etc), a written authorization from your vet will be required required to prove that they have recovered and are ‘fit for transportation ’
  • If travelling outside Italy, the pets must also have had all vaccination against rabies (at least 21 days prior their departure)
  • If travelling outside Italy, pets will require their individual passport
  • Travel to the EU will require a TRACES - the EU certificate that notify the import of a specific pet into that specific EU Country


For UK Pets transportation

Rules from any EU Country to the UK

  • Pets must travel with an official Import Health Certificate issued by an Official Veterinary Practice in their originating country;
  • Import authorities must be notified of the pets’ arrival using the IPAFFS website (we can assist with that) up to 30-days prior to the pet(s) arrival; You will be issued with a Unique Notification Number (UNN) that will need to be provided to your vet or breeder. The UNN number must be added to the pets’ health certificate
  • A copy of the health certificate must be provided to you so it can be attached to the import notification on the IPAFFS website (to finalise the notice of the pet(s) arrival)
  • NOTE: IPAFFS need to be notified between 30-days and at least 24 hours before the arrival of the pet(s) into the UK
  • Pets must arrive within 10-days of the date of issue for the Animal Health Certificate
  • Pets must be microchipped, vaccinated against rabies and the case of dogs they must be treated for Echinococcus multilocularis (tapeworm) not more than 120 hours prior their arrival in the UK
  • They must travel with either an EU issued Pet Passport or an Animal Health Certificate (UK issued AHC’s are valid for 4-months from date of issue)
